The Thinana buyback centre is one of the recipients of the 2015 SEED Awards, having been selected as an exceptional social and environmental enterprise. More than 500 applications were reviewed for 2015, and only 27 were successful throughout Africa. Out of those, 6 were from South Africa and our Thinana Recycling buyback centre was one of them. The awards are organised annually by SEED, which was founded by UNDP, UNEP and IUCN in 2002 at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg to help grassroots enterprises in developing countries to enhance their social, economic and environmental benefits, thereby promoting entrepreneurship for sustainable development
